We visit and report on a variety of model flying events

Bob Radford from the Park Hall Helicopter Club has sent me details of the three events they have scheduled for 2010. All three of these events will I'm sure be making a profit for charity, and it's also reasonable to expect some pretty cool trophies. Last year we filmed the second day of the 3D event (online in the event reports section) and got some great footage. So these are the dates!

8th and 9th May, 2010, Pod and Boom Fly-in
Hgh turnout expected! Trophies for the best flight and best helicopter and there's a raffle and refreshments.

7th & 8th August 2010, 3D Competition
They're promising bigger and better this year and it's just a week or two after 3D Masters - well worth marking this date in your diary.

5th September, 2010, Scale Day
Perhaps this is the ultimate skill, flying a hand built creation to achieve complete realism. Tens of thousands of hours of work on display and in the air. Trophies for the best heli, best flight plus raffle and refreshments. More information on the Club website where they are also looking for new members!

Phew
The last couple of months has certainly seen a lot going on that's nothing to do with W3MH, so it's had to take a back seat I'm afraid. From a very busy period with the day job to a hospital visit that didn't quite go as expected the time has shot by, and a nasty little shoulder injury on top of all that stopped me attending the Electric Indoor Masters in December, a big disappointment.

But the 2010 Season Approaches
Well the bad weather's been, err, bad, but it's a good few weeks since the solstice and the days are a bit longer now. This year we will be out and about and trying to bring a rounded view of the large subject of model flying but for the moment I'm staying in the warm!

GB R/C AA Championships October 2009
This report has also been a victim of circumstances recent, but it is going on in the background. In the meantime and by way of apology, here's the interview with Keith Jackson, just pipped to the post this year by Richard Christopher, with whom we also have a very interesting interview.

What is W3MH?
W3MH is for all model flyers and aims to promote and record the range of model flying activities. It will take time to build our content, but we welcome help via our forums and by direct contact with myself, Tony Wright. I can probably handle press releases and news for this front page too.

We'd invite you to read our reports and comment in our forums - feedback is welcome and the more people we have, the more events we can visit.

Event reports are published within our Forum system, so as well as reading them, please do register let me know what you think, and contribute.

File Format Feedback

The Keith Jackson interview just produced is in the MPEG (.mp4) format and seems to show a decent reduction in filesize while still maintaining quality well. The format is also less proprietary. It may play in the W*nd*ws Media Player, but it will also run in the Quicktime player and you could also try the VLC Media Player. Any comments about the new format to news'at'w3mh.co.uk, please.
