W3MH history
To avoid any confusion for older readers, W3MH started back in 1995 and was originally for model helicopter enthusiasts. At the time I was writingfor Model Helicopter World and was actively flying helicopters, but things change and my pockets aren't so deep these days! From 1997 until now W3MH has been dormant, but it still gets many visitors because of the excellent content, particularly Colin Mill's seminal helicopter and gyro articles, written when the first CSM piezo gyro was being developed. The old W3MH is still online in the Archive section with plenty of free (old but entertaining) articles
W3MH
was "World Wide Web Model Helicopter". The original website was created in October 1995 and in the early days we also produced a monthly
model helicopter magazine. That ceased production in March 1997 but
the last three issues can be downloaded complete from our articles
page in the W3MH archive. There are also plenty of single articles for
download with tons of information about model helicopters, including Colin Mill's superb articles about helicopter flight, the forces involved and piezo gyro development. This man invented the term Heading Lock!
W3MH has been dormant since 1997, and I have largely stopped flying helicopters. But as a modeller since 1963 (!) I obviously have a life long interest in model flying, so rather than waste the W3MH domain, why not open it up to encompass the huge subject that is model flying? So here it is! Of course, we'll have to call it "double you three emm aitch" now we cover all types of model flying, as I haven't been able to think of what the 'H' might stand for in the broader context of the site's intentions. Let me know if you come up with anything... :-)
Both Terry and myself are active model flyers, mostly I fly electric soarers, though I also fly a hotliner in the form of a Simprop Liftoff XS, an experience... Terry is active in helicopters and fixed wing and has also just built a model turbine. More about that in our forums - and do let us know what you think of our articles, please.
